Small Acts of Kindness, Big Impact on Children’s Lives
July 9, 2026 | Contributed by Isabella Twyford

Children suffering with congenital heart defects (CHDs) often feel unfathomable amounts of pain and confusion as to why they are suffering and what’s going on in their little bodies. The financial burden on the parents is very heavy and only adds to the emotional challenges the family must endure.
During these times, when the light seems dim and all hope is lost, friendly faces are much needed. We have all learnt that helping those in need is a moral we must maintain for the rest of our lives. Helping does not have to cost you; it can be in small acts of kindness where we help each other. The days of children with heart defects are filled with doctors, worried looks and fear within them.
Days like these need kindness, support and encouragement from loved ones, strangers and friends. Learning about illnesses like CHD– hole in heart by birth and spreading awareness about them can help more people understand what these children go through. Hospital visits supported by foundations can give them company and assurance. Genesis Foundation makes sure that their work is not just successful but that it makes every little part of their journeys easier and a little less hard. Buying small gifts that remind them of normalcy, holding their hand when they feel low or even smiling at them makes a huge difference in their lives. Even parents need an embrace or reassurance that their child will be okay and that the light at the end of the tunnel is near.
But this job is not just for foundations to fulfil, it is something that every person should feel responsible to do. Visiting hospitals, keeping in touch with foundations and giving small donations might just change someone’s life for the better. If you want to make a difference in children’s lives, try talking to them about how they feel and make them laugh so they’re reminded that they aren’t alone in these tough times. Each day is a new day and a new opportunity for doing something that makes someone smile. Use that wisely and make the world a better place for our young ones.
