A Hospital Visit with Genesis Foundation: Supporting a Child Heart Foundation in Action

I don’t think I will ever forget my visit with the Genesis Foundation Team to their partner hospital in Delhi NCR. It wasn’t just another day- it was something meaningful, something that left a mark on me.
I had the chance to go there as part of my internship with Genesis Foundation, and I am really grateful to the team for giving me that opportunity. You think you understand what NGOs do until you see it happen- until you meet the people whose lives are changed. That day, we were going to see a 9-year-old girl by the name of Kajal (name changed). From the minute I laid my eyes on Kajal, I could sense that Kajal seemed that she had been experienced so much suffering. She looked a little timid and tired, but there was also quiet strength in her as well.
From the moment Kajal was born, she was showing signs that something was not right – she had blue skin and could hardly walk or speak without becoming breathless. Eventually she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a complex congenital heart defect. Her family had been searching for answers, and they accepted whatever the doctors told them, visiting several doctors only to find no one would help them to find an answer.
Things changed when she was referred to a doctor at NGO’s partner hospital. That is when hope really entered the picture- and so did Genesis Foundation. As a child heart foundation, Genesis Foundation steps in when families feel stuck. They help kids like Kajal (name changed) not just get treated but truly care for. Thanks to their support, Kajal could finally undergo the surgery she needed.
And when I met her, it was just after her treatment- she was doing well and getting ready to be discharged from hospital. That day I brought her a little gift- nothing fancy, just something I thought she might like. Kajal smiled so sweet and so real when I gave it to her, it made my day! That one smile made everything feel real. She had been through so much, and now, she was healing.
Learning about her condition- and then seeing her after the treatment- made it all hit home for me. There is so much we take for granted. And there are kids out there who just need a chance. I didn’t perform the surgery. I didn’t fund the operation. But just being there, bringing her that gift, sharing a moment- it reminded me that even small acts can be part of something much bigger.
Genesis Foundation is not just an NGO for heart treatment in India– it is a lifeline for families who do not know where else to turn. They organize screening camps, coordinate consultations, provide family support, and, perhaps most importantly, they walk with, besides, and alongside them through their tough moments. And they do not stop once surgery is finished. They follow up with them, support recovery, and celebrate the littlest wins- like a smile, a discharge paper, or a kid standing on their feet again.
That kind of work matters. And honestly, being part of it- even briefly- reminded me why people volunteer, why they give, why they get involved in the first place. This child heart foundation is not just doing paperwork and funding procedures. They are building trust. They are changing futures. And they are doing it with heart.
If you are reading this and wondering how to help- trust me, there is a place for you here. Whether it is donating, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, it all counts. Genesis Foundation is a deeply committed NGO for heart treatment in India, and I have seen firsthand what that means.
More kids like Kajal are out there, waiting for care, for support, for someone to notice. You can be that someone. Join Genesis Foundation- and be part of the change. Learn more about how you can do that at https://www.genesis-foundation.net/.
