Led by DR. R. Krishna Kumar Head of the Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Amrita Hospital Kochi, we conducted our second screening camp in Ramanathapuram. This is a tribal district, where a significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line. According to the 2011 Census. 18.4% of the population living in the district are Scheduled Castes. To add to this, the areas in and around Ramanathapuram have limited access to specialized medical care.
As part of our partnership with HDFC Ergo, we have been conducting screening camps in areas with limited access to specialized medical care. The camps enable us to take pediatric cardiac care to the doorstep of families who do not have access to these facilities and diagnose and treat children who have congenital heart defects.
A total of 115 children were screened and 16 children were identified as in need of an intervention.
