Screening camps are the first step to save little hearts. Not only are these critical in identifying children in need of life saving treatment, they also help build awareness about the condition and what to look for. They bring quality healthcare to the doorstep of needy patients in places where access to such healthcare would not be possible.
We are happy to share that we conducted our first screening camp in Kargil on July 8-9, 2022. Genesis Foundation joined hands with Paras Hospitals, Gurugram to conduct the camp at the District Hospital Kurbathang with the help of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Health Department Kargil and Dream 4 a Change. Dream 4A change is a non-governmental organization working to improve social responsibility in the areas on health and hygiene in the district.
We were able to screen 25 children. Out of this, a total of 9 children were identified as those who needed further intervention. Out of these 2 children were below 1 year of age and 7 were above 1. The camp was a first where we battled with challenges of limited connectivity and unfavorable weather conditions in certain blocks restricting the people being able to come for the camps.
This camp has laid the foundation of many more interventions in this area in the future. The camp was also our stepping stone to spread awareness about CHD, it’s impact and the importance of timey help.
