Bravehearts of the Foundation: Safna
June 8, 2018 | Contributed by R Srivatsan
Thirteen-year old Safna Thesni, lives in Malappuram in Kerala. She celebrates her birthday on 26thMarch, but till now every birthday has not been a normal one for her. She has been silently suffering symptoms such as increased precordial activity, irritability and an increased rate of breathing.
When her parents took her to a doctor at a local hospital, she was instantly diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect and referred to Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi for further management. She was admitted to IMCU for stabilisation and further evaluation, however there was no recurrence and she remained stable throughout her hospital stay. At the time of discharge, the doctors advised close follow-up.
In May 2017, during a follow up, Dr Krishna Kumar advised surgery for Safna – an Ebstein’s Repair. But Safna’s father has been in a fix, he works as a coolie (a labourer who assists in carrying luggage at a railway station) and earns a humble amount of USD45 a month. The family managed to put together a small amount of money for the surgery, but they could not put together the entire amount required, as it is a sizeable sum.
With your support, we can give Safna the chance to go back to school and live a normal, healthy life of a thirteen-year old.
Let’s help her dream again… Help us Save Little Hearts!
