A new smile, a new beginning!

I recently joined Genesis Foundation in January 2020. It has been just a few weeks and I feel so grateful to work here as this foundation believes in making a difference in people’s life by supporting little hearts childcare for underprivileged children who are born with Congenital Heart Defects.

Visiting the children supported by the foundation connect us with their families and we come across their struggle and challenges they face to get their child back to their normal lives. I really feel proud to be a part of this team.

My first visit to Max Hospital, Saket was a heart-warming experience. I met Ashi Kumari, a 10yearold from Aurangabad, Bihar. Ashi had Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a defect in which there is an abnormal opening in the dividing wall between the upper chambers of the heart. While interacting with Ashi’s mother I came to know about the deteriorating health of Ashi and the struggle of the family to get their child treated. When shown to the doctor, Ashi was detected with irregular heartbeats. Further analysis discovered that she had ASD. The doctor told them that a surgery had to be conducted and this left the parents in shock as they soon realized that they are financially short-handed. They managed some amount through loan and remaining was supported by Genesis foundation and ACRE, a funding agency. The surgery was successful. And this gave Ashi a new beginning. She is now on her way to a long and healthy life.

I also had an opportunity to interact with Dr K. S. Dagar, the Senior Director from Max Hospital. He has been in the field of cardiac surgery for over 21 years of which the last decade and half has been dedicated exclusively to the care of infants and children with Congenital Heart Defects. We handed a doll to Ashi and saw a big smile on her face, which instantly warmed us up. Ashi’s mother expressed her gratitude towards the organization and this motivated us to continue our pursuit of little hearts childcare.
