5 Reasons to donate to Genesis Foundation and Save Tax (Save a Life)

March 10, 2022 | Contributed by Monisa Nadeem

It’s March again!
Named after the Roman god of war – Mars, this month is considered the beginning of Spring in many parts of the world. And also remembered for The Ides of March, which became synonymous with the assassination of Julius Caesar.

But in India, March is synonymous with tax-saving and everyone is looking for ways to save tax. It’s possible through education loan, tuition fees for self and children, insurance, premium of self or spouse or children, treatment of specified diseases or medical treatment of handicapped dependents. A lot of other employer perks and benefits are dependent on each organization. Now if you’ve already exhausted the above options, the next best way is through donation tax exemption. As the saying goes, ‘no act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted’, you can save tax under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, through NGO donation tax exemption.

Add to that, evidence shows that helping others can have a positive impact on our own mental health and well-being. Helping others, especially those who are less fortunate than yourself, can help to put things into perspective and make you feel more positive. There is some evidence that being aware of your own acts of kindness, as well as the things you are grateful for, can increase feelings of happiness, optimism, and satisfaction.

But it’s extremely important to find the right place to make your donations, so that they can help you create the desired impact, while giving you the benefit of donation tax exemption.

Acts of compassion, big or small, affect our mental well-being. Giving, sharing, helping or reaching out to others in whichever way possible impacts us positively in more than one way. It affects our mental health, sense of self, sense of belongingness to the society, and may even positively alter our outlook. Understanding the plight of those in need or those facing hardships helps us gain perspective. It teaches us to appreciate and count our blessings; it encourages us to practise gratitude.

1. Multiple ways to donate

Whether you prefer Paytm wallets, net-banking, writing cheques or a bank transfer, the Foundation supports multiple options for donations. Visit our Donate page, to explore all the options. Moreover, we also give donors the choice to make a one-time donation or sign-up for a monthly recurring donation with any amount of your choice. All these donations are eligible for an 80G receipt if you’re an Indian citizen with a valid . Giving is a noble act and we wish to make it as convenient and easy as possible. We try to eliminate any hinderance that the donor may face while making a contribution.

2. Utilizing 100% individual donations

At our Foundation, 100% of donations from individual donors are used towards the treatment of children with no allocation towards administrative costs. As an organisation, we understand that donors may be sceptical of the utilisation of their contributions. We believe in being transparent about the utilisation of their contributions. Therefore, our donors are well-aware that every rupee they contribute goes towards ensuring an underprivileged child with CHD gets quality treatment.

3. Trust and Credibility

We pride ourselves with transparency, a safe and high-trust environment for donors, as well as beneficiaries who receive the aid. Abiding by all legal and compliance requirements, we have a registration for CSR Form 1, 12 A, 80G, and FCRA registration as well. Not only that, we encourage in-person visits to beneficiaries.

4. Timely Reports

After every child’s surgery, we share regular reports with donors, to ensure you are well-aware of the difference your donation is making in the lives of lesser-privileged children with CHD.

5. Tax-exemption receipts

When you donate to our Foundation, we issue a soft-copy tax receipt. Every donation made to Genesis Foundation can be used to avail a deduction of up to 50% of the donated amount under section 80G of the Income Tax Act.

This ensures that all our donors can donate with confidence that their giving is indeed doing what it’s supposed to – Save Little Hearts and making the impact that you intended it to!
