Some of them come from families who cannot afford to get to a visit of a Pediatric Cardiologist, not alone get to pay for a heart surgery! To bridge this gap where a child could be given the opportunity to live a life and the families not being able to reach there due to their financial status, organizations such as Genesis Foundation come in the picture. This is where I got my volunteering opportunity in India.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why\u00a0I\u00a0Chose\u00a0to\u00a0Volunteer\u00a0for\u00a0an\u00a0NGO\u00a0in\u00a0India?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have always wanted to do my bit for a social cause and Genesis Foundation was the organization that finally got me started. Founded in Gurugram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/blog\/one-promise-many-heartbeats-25-years-of-giving-life-a-chance\/\"><u>25 years ago<\/u><\/a>, it solves a single, well identified problem &#8211; children born with heart defects, children whose families cannot afford the surgery needed. This isn\u2019t charity, it\u2019s a specific, addressable gap and an organizational structure to close it by focusing on one child at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Genesis Foundation was started by parents who lost their newborn to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/blog\/overview-of-congenital-heart-defects\/'\"><u>heart defect<\/u><\/a>, and that origin informs everything about how the organization works; it\u2019s personal rather than procedural. Ever since its founding, the foundation has enabled thousands of children by getting them life-saving cardiac treatment. Not just that, the foundation ensures it works simultaneously with families whose, often, monthly income is $209 USD or less.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u00a0Volunteering\u00a0Opportunity in India Involves?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0foundation\u00a0involves\u00a0multiple\u00a0categories,\u00a0and\u00a0each\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/blog\/volunteer-opportunities-in-india-why-does-india-need-more-healthcare-volunteers\/\"><u>volunteer<\/u><\/a>\u00a0can\u00a0choose\u00a0to\u00a0<strong><b>volunteer for an NGO in India <\/b><\/strong>depending on their skills and time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><\/b><strong>Screening <\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Awareness<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>camps:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>These\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/screening-camps\"><u>camps<\/u><\/a> are conducted in smaller towns and remote districts where cardiac care is hard to access &#8211; help families recognize the early signs of CHD before it is too late.<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong>Supporting <\/strong><strong>Families<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>throughout <\/strong><strong>he<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Process: <\/strong>Genesis Foundation ensures that from paperwork to follow-ups, everything continues for years after a child\u2019s surgery since recovery does not end when the operation does.<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong>Writing: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/blog\/my-first-hospital-visit-an-unforgettable-experience\/\"><u>Volunteers<\/u><\/a>\u00a0can write for the foundation\u2019s website and help <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/blog\/\"><u>spread awareness<\/u><\/a>\u00a0about congenital heart defects.<\/li>\n<li><b><\/b><strong>Fundraising <\/strong><strong>and<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Outreach:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>This is done by helping spread the word, whether through community events, social media platforms, corporate partnerships or simply talking to people about why this cause matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of these require a volunteer to have a medical background. You don\u2019t have to be present on ground. You can apply from anywhere around the globe. Since you learn how much of a difference early detection makes. You learn how a family\u2019s entire life can hinge on whether a screening camp happens to visit their district this year. And you learn, quietly, how much a small but sustained effort can add make an invaluable difference. For instance, a few hours spent a week, a shared social post, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genesis-foundation.net\/fundraisers\"><u>fundraiser<\/u><\/a> you helped organize, all of these provide opportunities to be a part of something bigger than yourself.<\/p>\n<p>It also changes how you think of giving back since it\u2019s easy to assume <strong><b>volunteering for social causes<\/b><\/strong> implies big, dramatic gestures.
