OUR STORY

OUR FOUNDERS

Prema and Jyoti Sagar lost their second-born child Sameer, to a Congenital Heart Defect on December 20, 1983, within 16 hours of his birth. It took them a long time to recover, and they spent a lot of time wondering why? But with no answers, they faced a vacuum of sadness. In time, they began working at Missionaries of Charity, which gave a whole new meaning to their life. It became the seed through which their journey started, as they felt they could reach out and assist in the best way possible - enriching the lives of others and their own. They met two children - Sheela and Ravi at Missionaries of Charity, who further changed their lives and inspired them to start a children’s heart care foundation in India. Now, there is no end to this journey to give life a chance.

SHEELA'S STORY

Sheela (name changed) the daughter of a poor farmer was only 12, when she contracted a disease that left her facial features severely deteriorated. Missionaries of Charity blessed her life as they took her under their wing, cared and looked after her for over a decade. Our Founders stepped in and contacted a non-profit organization in the USA, raising money for child surgery, so she could get corrective plastic surgery. It transformed her life, allowing her to eat and breathe properly. Today, 17 surgeries later, she is happy and doing well with her new family - Sheela got married and has two healthy boys. They live in Ontario, Oregon in the USA. It is success stories such as this one, which have always stayed close to Prema & Jyoti’s heart, and their will to Save Little Hearts.

RAVI'S STORY

Ravi's (name changed) birth father, a tea stall owner in a drunken stupor threw him into a dry well. At only seven years of age, he broke and dislocated every major bone in his body. He was taken to an orphanage and then with the help of a friend - Eugene Mihaly, we reached out to Ravi and contacted Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in the USA - where he underwent multiple surgeries and physiotherapy. He found a happy ending with an American family who adopted him and welcomed him with open arms. He went to school, and even learnt how to swim. Unfortunately, we lost Ravi on October 24, 2012 but his legacy lives on through our children heart foundation India, as we ensure every child’s right to get timely medical treatment.
