Saving Little Kushagra

by admin on February 6, 2010

Kushagra Lakhmani is a small boy of 3 and half years. He was diagnosed with Thalassemia major when he was just 4 months old. The family tried hard to treat him with alternate remedies, however at the age of 9 months at CMC Vellore his diagnosis was confirmed and treatment regimen of regular blood transfusions bega, explained to the family.

Kushagra has an older sister and the hospital did the HLA testing to see if there was bone marrow compatibility between the siblings. It turned out to be 100% compatable. The father, a small time accountant with a meagre salary of Rs. 5000- per month, has also to support his parents in addition to his wife and 2 children. The first transplant in May 2008,  unfortunately failed and his thalassemia condition worsened. Kushagra has now undergone  a second transplant in Dec’09. The family approached Genesis Foundation for financial support of additional Rs.200,000- (approx USD3750) to see them through the second surgery. Kushagra is doing fine now.

Here’s  what Kushagra has to say, “Hi I am Kushagra, I am four years old. I love playing with colors, playing games on  computer. I like grapes, apple. I love puzzles, playing cricket. I love to watch cartoon movies. My favourite channel is POGO. I don’t like to go to hospital.”
