Genesis Foundation’s The Great Tibetan Marathon 2008

by admin on July 3, 2009

The Great Tibetan Marathon & Half Marathon is a unique chance to sense and explore one of the world’s most fascinating corners. Situated on the Tibetan plateau in the peaceful area of Ladakh, The Great Tibetan Marathon takes its participants through the vast Indus Valley and past ancient monasteries and majestic mountains, making everyone remember that they are much further than 42 kilometers from home.

Counted among world’s 5 toughest marathons, The Great Tibetan Marathon is the ultimate test of human strength and determination.

The thin air, rugged paths and steep inclines makes it the race only for the fittest.

2008 Marathon was special thanks to our friend from Genesis Burson-Marsteller – Ashok Nath, who decided to participate in it to help raise funds for the kids whose life was in serious danger.

First we were raising funds for 3 little children with a target of Rs.500,000 ($11,900); now we have collected Rs.700,000 ($16, 600) and therefore 4 little children will get a Chance to Live.

Ashok’s success was even greater because he managed to get the 5th time among all 104 participants and 1st time among Indians.

It cost him long months of preparation and was extremely tiring but as he said after crossing the finish line- when you are there “you put down your hat and just count the steps… And you say ‘one foot after another foot’… And you’re not going to stop because you know that there are so many people depending on you.” Click here to see CNN IBN’s coverage of Ashok’s success!

Thanks Ashok!
