Heart
Pushpanjali, an 11 year old girl was diagnosed with a hole in the heart and needed to undergo open heart surgery. She loves being in school and lives in a joint family of 7. Her father was the only wage earning member working as a cook in an office transit home at Kanpur earning Rs. 2,500/- per month. The estimated cost of surgery was Rs. 1,30,000/- and was undertaken at Escort’s Heart Institute. The family managed to collect Rs. 30,000/-. The family was from Orissa and every time they came to Delhi for Pushpanjali’s checkup they incurred costs they could not afford. Genesis Foundation contributed Rs. 1,00,000/- towards the cost of surgery which took place in February 2010. Pushpanjali is now doing fine.
Inshika a 4-and-half-year-old girl was referred to us by a friend who knows about the Foundation. Inshika’s father is a driver earning Rs.3,500/- per month. Her mother suffers from Type-2 Diabetes. Inshika is the only child of the couple.With this meager salary daily needs are hardly met and cost of surgery of Rs.1,10,000/- was way beyond their means. Genesis Foundation provided the financial support for her. A one time surgery would ensure Inshika leads a normal healthy life. She had a successful open heart surgery at Max Heart Institute, Saket in Feb 2010 is back home.
Aditya a 6-year-old boy had congenital heart disease needing open heart surgery. The child was taken to AIIM’S in Sep ‘09 and was advised surgery. The family is from Varanasi and the father works in a shop and earns Rs.3,750/- per month. The family has moved from Bihar to Varanasi and is still to settle down fully. Genesis Foundation has contributed Rs.55,000/- towards the cost of surgery . He had a successful surgery in Feb 2010.
Durgesh Jha a 2 and half years old boy, needed open heart surgery (VSD closure) at the earliest. Cost of surgery was Rs.1,30,000/- at Escorts Heart Institute. Durgesh’s father is a helper in a dairy shop and earns Rs.3,000/- per month. Durgesh is the only child, born after many years of marriage. The familywas heart broken and was able to collect only Rs.30,000/- for the surgery. This case was referred to Genesis Foundation, and an amount of Rs.1, 00,000/- was contributed towards his surgery. Durgesh underwent surgey in Feb 2010 and is now on the way to recovery.
One and half years old Prince needed heart surgery at Max Hospital, Saket. The cost of surgery is Rs. 1,50,000/-. His father works under a sub contractor at IIT, Delhi and earns Rs.4,500/- per month. They live in rented accommodation, with the rent being Rs.1000/- a month. The cost of surgery was beyond their means. The father was running from pillar to post trying to get funds, when he came to know about Genesis Foundation from some one in the hospital. They then got in touchwith Genesis Foundation, with all of Prince’s medical papers. The parents were happy and were finally able to smile when they found out that Genesis Foundation hadtaken up the case. He had surgery in Feb 2010.
Lucky, 7 years old, suffered from TOF, a congenital heart defect and needed open heart surgery. The cost of surgery was Rs. 1,65,000/- at Medanta Medicity and the family managed to collect Rs. 80,000/-. Lucky’s father, a helper in a garment factory in Bhilwada, Rajasthan was earning Rs. 2,500/- a month. They sold their house and took help from friends to get funds for the surgery. Lucky is their only child and the parents had been trying to get treatment for their son for the past 4 years. The doctors of the hospital got in touch with Genesis Foundation as the child needed immediate surgery. The balance of Rs. 85,000/- was contributed by the foundation. Lucky was operated on 18th March 2010. He is responding well to post op medicines and is on his way to recovery.
Md.Tanbir, 4 years of age was suffering from Congenital Heart Disease. The child needed a B D Glen surgery Cost of surgery was Rs.45,000/- at AIIMS. Tanbir’s father is a labourer working in a brick factory earning Rs.3000/- per month. Tanbir is one of four children. Tanbir’s mother is a house wife. The family deposited 4 units of blood at AIIMS for the surgery. Genesis Foundation contributed the cost of surgery and surgery was done in end April 2010
Yash Koirala, a delicate 2 and a half year old was suffering from VSD with Aortic valve prolapse. He needed urgent cardiac surgery, the cost of surgery was Rs.1,50,000 at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute. Yash’s father is a jeep driver in Uttarnchal and earned Rs.4000 per month. The father lost his job as he has been taking Yash from one hospital to the other for the last couple of months. Yash is their only child. The doctors at Max Hospital got in touch with us and Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.1,00,000 towards his surgery. He underwent a successful surgery, end April 2010 .
Master Pulkit was suffering from Haemangioma with increased blood flow. He is a 5 years old and needed to undergo vascular surgery to correct the condition at the earliest. Pulkit’s father has a small shop selling gutka & toffees earning about Rs. 4,500 per month. They are residents of Faridabad. Cost of surgery at Sarvodya Hospital, Faridabad is Rs.60,000. Genesis Foundation has been approached by an NGO partner for help. With the timely support by Genesis Foundation Pulkit had his surgery in May 2010 and has recovered fully.
Anjali a 10 year old, needed heart surgery to correct a hole in her heart ( PDA). Anjali was a student of class 4. Her father is a gardner earning Rs.4,500 per month. They are residents of Ludhiana. Cost of surgery at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute is Rs. 75,000. Genesis Foundation took up the case which was referred to us by doctors at Max hospital. Anjali underwent surgery in May 2010 and is doing fine.
Rohan, a 2 year old, had to undergo open heart surgery at AIIMS for a hole in the heart. His father is a labourer in Rohtak village and earns Rs.100/- a day . Their monthly income is Rs. 2,500/- only. Rohan’s elder brother died of heart disease.They live in a joint family and Rohan’s father Hukum Singh is the sole bread winner. Cost of surgery of Rs.55,000/- is being contributed by Genesis Foundation.The family deposited blood for surgery and had surgery on 4 May 2010
Falak a 2-year-old girl,is the youngest of 6 children. She had congenital heart disease. She also suffers from Down’s syndrome. The child was taken to AIIM’S and needed open Heart Surgery. The cost of surgery was Rs.55,000/-. Falak’s father is a tailor who earns Rs.3000/- per month. Having a large family and taking care of a special child in his meager income was very difficult. A friend of the foundation came to know of this family in need and got in touch with us. Genesis Foundation contributed the money in AIIMS and she had surgery end of May 2010.
Farah a 14 year old girl was suffering from congenital heart disease. She needed to undergo angiograph and heart surgery to correct the defect. Farah’s father is a tempo driver, aged 55 yrs earning Rs.3000 per month. They are a family of 6 children. Farah’s surgery got delayed due to lack of funds. Cost of surgery was Rs.1,55,000 which was way beyond their means. They are residents of Agra and doctors of a Delhi hospital found her to be needing surgery at a screening camp held at Agra. The family came to Delhi with the help of an NGO from Agra. They were falling short of Rs.75,000. The doctors approached Genesis Foundation for help with the balance. Farah had surgery in June 2010.
Pooja 14 years of age had to undergo Valve repair. She was a student of class 9. The family comes from Agra. Her father is an auto driver earning Rs.2000 per month. Pooja was found to be needing surgery at a screening camp at Agra by doctors of a Delhi hospital. The doctors approached Genesis Foundation for help. The cost of surgery was Rs.1,50,000. The family was able to raise Rs.75,000 and the balance was paid by Genesis Foundation. Pooja had a successful surgery at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute, in July 2010 and is doing well.
Mohit Sharma a 9 years old had multiple holes in the heart. The family is from Agra. Their father works as office help and earns a monthly salary of Rs. 2,700/-. The cost of surgery at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute was Rs. 1,40,000/- .Genesis Foundation contributed 1,00,000 towards his surgery. Mohit underwent surgery in July 2010 and is doing fine.
Jayant 8 months old suffered from a heart disorder. His father is a welder and earns as meager Rs. 1,200/- per month and cannot afford the surgery. Jayant is their only child. The cost of VSD closure is Rs. 1,50,000/- at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute. Genesis Foundation contributed 1,00,000 towards his surgery. Jayant underwent successful surgery in July 2010.
Namandeep 8 months old required open heart surgery (VSD Closure). He underwent Pulmonary artery banding in February 2010. He needed a second surgery as soon as possible. His father is a tailor earning Rs. 5,000/- per month. They borrowed money for the first surgery. The cost of the second surgery at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute was Rs. 2,00,000/-.The family collected Rs. 75,000/- and the balance of`Rs. 1,25,000/- was contributed by Genesis Foundation. Namandeep underwent surgery in August 2010 and is recovering well.
Mannat a 2 month baby needed immediate heart surgery as she was suffering from a congenital heart disease. Her oxygen level was very low and surgery had to be undertaken immediately. Mannat’s father has a small provision store in Patna and earns Rs. 4000/- per month. Doctors at Medanta Medicity had sought the Foundation’s help as the family was falling short of Rs.1,00,000/- for her surgery. The baby underwent surgery on 2nd of Aug 2010 is recovering well.
Chotu Rathod a 3 year old was suffering from a hole in the heart (TOF) since birth. The boy also has a cleft lip because of which his speech is not clear. Chotu requires two surgeries, one to correct his heart condition and the second to rectify his cleft. The family is from Agra, Chotu’s father does embroidery work from his house and earns about Rs. 3000/- per month. The cost of Chotu’s open heart surgery at Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute, was Rs.1,40,000/-.In August 2010 Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.1,00,000 towards his surgery.
Aman 5 years old had a hole in the heart (TAG-VSD) and needed to undergo his second open heart surgery. Aman’s father is a taxi driver and earns Rs.4000/- per month. He had his first surgery(S/P BT Shunt), when he was less than a year old. Surgery cost was Rs. 1,20,000/- at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals. He had surgery in September 2010. Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.70,000.
At 1 year & 7 months, Naitik Gaur needed to undergo open heart surgery without delay, to correct Congenital heart defect. Naithik had already undergone two non- invasive procedures (Balloon dilatation ) in June & August 2010 . But as there was no improvement in his condition heart surgery has become unavoidable. Naitk’s father Ram works as a driver in Gwalior and earns Rs.3000/- per month. Cost of surgery at Medanta medicity was Rs.1,10,000/- and the family has managed to collect Rs.30,000/- only. Genesis foundation was approached by the Doctors at Medicity and the balance of Rs.80,000/- has been given by the Foundation. Naitik underwent surgery on 28-10-2010 and is on his way to recovery.
Lucky was 15 years old and was diagnosed as having a hole in the heart. As she was advanced in age the surgery was required to be done as soon as possible at National Heart Institute. Lucky’s father is a farmer earning Rs.3000/- per month. Cost of her surgery was Rs.1,90,000/-. The Family accumulated some funds but required a further amount of Rs.80,000/- which was contributed by the foundation and she had surgery in October 2010
Manas Mishra 6 yrs old was suffering from Congenital Heart Disease and needed surgery, ASD with conduits, cost of which was Rs.1,25,000 at AIIMS. The child’s father is a labourer earning Rs.100 per day and earns only Rs.1,500 a month. They are from Kanpur and had come to AIIMS for treatment. The cost of surgery was beyond their means. The family had approached Genesis Foundation for help and we contributed the whole amount.The surgery was postponed due to infection in the chest and finally done in November. Unfortunately due to post surgical complications he did not survive.
Adity Narayan, 7 years old suffered from a Congenital Heart Disease. She had severe breathing problems and got fatigued very fast. Adity needed open heart surgery at Escorts Heart & Research Institute at the earliest. Adity’s father Mukesh Kumar works in the screen printing unit of a garment factory and earns Rs.3,500/- per month. The cost of surgery was Rs.1,55,000/-. The family has managed to collect some funds for the surgery but were falling short of Rs.80,000/- which was contributed by Genesis Foundation. She had surgery in November 2010.
Shivani a 9 years from Agra, was suffering from a cardiac disorder and needed to undergo open heart surgery at Max Devki Devi Heart & Research Institute. The estimated cost of surgery was Rs.1,50,000/-. Shivani’s father is a daily wage labourer who earns Rs. 120/- per day and manages to get work for only 22/25 days in a month. Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.1,00,000/- towards her surgery which was done in November 2010
Cancer
Shabnam, a 14-year-old girl from a small village near Sohna, Haryana was suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukemia (a bad type of blood cancer). She underwent treatment in Pediatric Hemato- Oncology Unit at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for 4 months. For a complete cure Shabnam needed to undergo Bone Marrow Transplant from her sister. Her BMT, which was the only hope for her, took place in February 2010. The estimated cost was approximately Rs 10-12 lakhs, which the family could not afford. Shabnam, a student in class ix, is very good in academics. Her father works at a welding workshop earning Rs. 4,000/month.
Ajay ( Monu) a 5 years old was suffering from Retinoblastoma of the left eye ( cancer) and his treatment involved 6 cycles of Chemotherapy, followed by surgery for removal of eye, followed by 20 sessions of radiotherapy. Post surgery in May 2010, he was undergoing radiotherapy at Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital. Ajay’s father is a labourer and earns Rs.1,500 per month. They are from Saharanpur, UP. He has 3 other siblings. The cost of treatment is Rs. 1,80,400. Genesis F oundation contributed Rs.85,400 towards his treatment. Unfortunately Ajay passed away in the month of July.
Mohd. Iqbal Rashid a 15 years old, studying in class IX . He is good in studies and a foot ball player as well. It was found that Iqbal was suffering from Non Hodgkins Lymphoma . He is undergoing Chemotherapy at Max , Saket and Genesis Foundation is supporting by funding the Chemotherapy. He has to undergo 6 cycles of Chemotherapy of which 2 cycles have been completed as on Oct 2010. Estimated cost of each Chemo cycle was Rs.45,000/- . Iqbal’s father works as a secretary in a small firm and earns Rs.5000/- per month. Doctors at Max approached us seeking support for Iqbal and the Foundation has contributed Rs. 25,000 for his treatment.
Deformities
Mary Rose a 14 month girl from an orphanage, suffered from obstructive hydrocephalus with lipomeningomyelocele. She was completely paraplegic with bowel bladder incontinence.She was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital and part of her surgery costs were supported by the charity wing of the hospital.Mary Rose was admitted for palliative surgery but on further investigation, it was discovered that she was also suffering from VonWilbrend disease and thrombocytopenia. She was operated on June 8, 2010 and underwent corrective coagulation profile. She had a prolonged stay at the hospital, of more than 12 days and finally returned to the orphanage on June 20, 2010.Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.55,000 towards this successful surgery.
Amir required to undergo Tethering of Cord as he had a tail bone protruding 7 inches outside the body. Amir’s father is a tailor on daily wages in Uttar Pradesh and earns Rs.4,200 per month. They are a family with 3 children and Amir is the eldest child. Due to lack of funds the family was unable to get surgery done at birth. As Amir was 5 years old andthe chances of a rupture were very high and it could be fatal.Amir’s case was referred to Genesis Foundation by Indian Spinal Injuries Center on May 6, 2010. The child was taken by GF to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for tests and his surgery was undertaken on May 18, 2010. The operation was a success. The cost of surgery was Rs.1,00,000/-. Amir was lucky to have got a free bed and his surgery cost was borne by Sir Ganga Ram’s charitable trust.
Mohit a 10 year old boy from a village near Meerut, had a fall from a height which resulted in injury to his spine. He underwent emergency surgery in Dec 2010. He was under rehabilitation as he is paralyzed waist down and will be a wheel chair user for life. Mohit’s father is a labourer earning Rs.1,800/- per month , and he has 4 children to support. Cost of surgery was beyond their means.Genesis Foundation was approached by the hospital and the cost of Implants of Rs.80,000/- was provided by the Foundation.
Thalassemia
Vansh Babbar, a 6 year old was diagnosed to have thalasaemia major. His sister Ankita can serve as a bone marrow donor . Estimated cost of BMT at CMC Vellore is Rs.12,00,000/- .Vansh’s father Dinesh Babbar is working as an operative in the die casting unit at Yamaha Motors. They were unable to bear the total cost of treatment and thalassemics India approached the foundation seeking help. Genesis foundation contributed 1,00,000 towardys the surgery and his Bone Marrow Transplant ( BMT) has been scheduled in July 2010.
Mahima a student of class 8 in MRV model school,has 2 younger brothers and one of them was the donor of the Bone Marrow. Her father is a street vendor earning approximately Rs.4000 per month. This case has been referred to GF by Thalassemics India. Mahima started her BMT procedure in end May 2010 . She was hospitalised for 6 weeks and the surgery was completed in June 2010. The cost of surgery was Rs.10,00,000 the family was able to raise Rs.5,00,000 and GF supported with the same
Harsh, 12 years old and was diagnosed Thalassemia Major at a very young age. He had been on regular blood transfusions and painful iron chelation, which was not only very traumatic for him and his family but has resulted in a huge financial burden on the family. His father is a small time shopkeeper and is unable to support his son’s treatment. His youngest brother is normal and luckily a perfect match for the Bone Marrow transplant Harsh required. The cost of the surgery was 12 lakhs, and Genesis Foundation contributed Rs.1,00,000 towards his treatment.
