Our very first fundraising event with a difference was the “CEOs Share-a-Smile” Lunch that saw some very enterprising CEOs put their culinary skills to the test for a good cause. Each of our ‘Bold and Brave’ CEOs happily donned ITC Maurya Sheraton’s cap, the Genesis Foundation aprons and their own smiles to cook a gourmet meal for 100 wonderful people who bought a place at the tables. Our MC for the afternoon, Raman Bhanot, kept us informed, entertained and in good cheer while egging on the chefs to hard sell their own cuisine.
A nice wintery afternoon, with the sun and clouds dancing to the tune of our band that was belting out some oldies in keeping with the profile!! Drinks aplenty and cooks seriously competing to attract the foodies.
Nigel Shaw, British Gas India teamed up with Ruchir Goudra, UT Starcom Inc and took on the Chinese counter serving delicious Kung Bao Chicken and Lamb with Spring Onions in Garlic Sauce.
Needless to say the Italian counter was headed by none other than Natalino Duo, erstwhile CEO of Perfetti, and was ably assisted by Preety Kumar, Amrop India who jointly created the most delicious pasta preparations and desserts.
At the other end not to be out done at the Indian counter was Siddharth Shriram, Mawana Sugars Ltd who called one and all to partake of the delicious Galoti Kebabs. Subinder Singh, Reebok India Company informed us all in Punjabi that the Murg Malai Kebabs was the highlight of the lunch.
The Continental section had two quite heady CEOs Ranjan Pal, Pulsar Knowledge and Sheila Singla, Chrysalis HRD churn out a Prawn Jambolaya heavily doused with Foster’s Beer and Moet Hennessy white wine.
It was truly an afternoon of high spirits and great food. Pradeep Gidwani, Foster’s India Ltd, volunteered to be our celebrity bartender and introduced the new hot Brazilian cocktail Caipirinha and the yard-long glass for the beer drinking competition. At Rs. 5,000 per successful candidate Foster’s donated a handsome sum to the Foundation.
There was more fun to be had. Ashwin Deo, Moet Hennessy offered to sing provided there was a bidding for each song he sang. Three songs later some pockets were lighter and the Foundation coffers were smiling.
A truly fun-filled day that ended with the lucky dip supported by gifts from our co-sponsors Canon, Dabur, Ganeshil Lall & Son, Lakme, Reebok and Xerox.
The end came all to soon and Prema took the mike to thank our sponsors, ITC Hotels Maurya Sheraton, Foster’s India Ltd, Moet Hennessy and Backstage Productions, our brave CEO Chefs and all the guests who had come together to support our cause, our children.
