Love on the Brink is a play directed by Lillete Dubey and is being premiered by Genesis Foundation on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at Epicentre, Apparel House, Gurgaon. The proceeds from this event will go towards the support of the following children.

Thalassemia

Naitik Sharma is a 14 month old boy and has been diagnosed as a Thalassemia Major from the time he was 9 months old. He has been under going regular blood transfusions once every 15 days and is soon to start the painful iron chelation treatment.

The doctors have advised bone marrow transplant, which fortunately is possible as his 5 year old sibling Garvit is a perfect match. Naitik’s father works in a small shop repairing computers and earns Rs. 5000/- per month. The little boy has just started walking and has learnt to say Namaste to everyone he meets. His BMT has been fixed for end August 2010 at Gangaram Hospital. The estimated cost of transplant is Rs. 10,00,000/-.

Cardiac Disorder

Chotu Rathod is a 3 year old suffering from a hole in the heart (TOF) since birth. The boy also has a cleft lip because of which his speech is not clear. Chotu requires two surgeries, one to correct his heart condition and the second to rectify his cleft. The family is from Agra, Chotu’s father does embroidery work from his house and earns about Rs. 3000/- per month. Chotu’s open heart surgery at Max Heart Institute, Saket will cost Rs.1,40,000/-

Mannat is a 2 month baby who needs immediate heart surgery as she is suffering from a congenital heart disease. Her oxygen level was very low and surgery had to be undertaken immediately.

Mannat’s father has a small provision store in Patna and earns Rs. 4000/- per month. Doctors at Medanta Medicity had sought the Foundation’s help as the family was falling short of Rs.1,00,000/- for her surgery. The baby has already undergone surgery on 2nd of Aug 2010 upon assurance by the Foundation that Mannat’s case will be supported by us. She is presently in ICU and is well on the way to recovery.

Devika at 2 days old was found abandoned near Jamia Nagar, New Delhi. She was taken to a home and over the next few years it was found that she had a severe respiratory problem. At the age of 3 years she was diagnosed as suffering from a congenital heart deformity and needed immediate surgery. GF contributed Rs.160,000(USD 3,200) towards the surgery which took place at Batra Hospital. Today Devika is fully recovered due to this timely surgery.

Severe Deformity:

Cancer:

Read more about Genesis Foundation

Genesis Foundation (GF) is a private trust established in 2001 by Prema Sagar, Principal & Founder, Genesis Burson-Marsteller Public Relations Pvt Ltd. The Foundation provides critical medical and financial support to children from orphanages or whose family income is less than Rs.5000 (approx USD 105) per month. The focus area of support is cancer, heart, organ failure, thalassemia and extreme deformities. To know more visit www.genesis-foundation.net

The Foundation currently works with several homes and institutions in the cities of New Delhi, Noida and Gurgaon. To name a few, Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s Home), Children of the World, CanSupport, CanKids, Handicapped Children’s Rehabilitation Association (HCRA), National Heart Institute (NHI), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, AIIMS, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center, Batra Hospital, Max Devki Devi Heart & Vascular Institute and Indian Spinal Injuries Center.

Over the years the Foundation has established itself resulting in today receiving more than 10/12 requests each month for support of critically ill children. In many cases the bread winner is a labourer, cycle rickshaw driver, tailor, vegetable vendor or security guard. He/she earns just enough to feed the family but never enough to afford treatment for their child who may suffer from a critical illness.

The Foundation’s aim is to support these wonderful little children and help Save a Life. Due to the nature of these illnesses the medical costs are very high and to save the life of a child suffering from a cardiac disorder (hole in the heart) the operation cost is approximately Rs 140,000 (USD 2800). To support a child suffering from cancer or thalassemia that may require bone marrow transplant the cost varies from Rs.900,000 to Rs. 1,200,000 (USD 18,000 to 24,000).

GF’s support extends from specific medical intervention, recovery, and recuperation to extended treatments like chemotherapy. Each child needs specific medical intervention, recovery and time for the case to be successful.

The Foundation has till March 31 , 2010 successfully saved the lives of 105 critically ill children.

We run the following programmes :

Hope is all about helping critically ill children lead as normal a life as possible. Under this programme GF makes contact with Homes for abandoned children, NGOs working with children and Hospitals. This interaction leads to GF being approached whenever they need our support.

GF undertakes due diligence before taking up each case, by meeting with the family and child. All payments for surgery/treatments are made directly to the hospital and not to the family. Each case is closed on receipt of discharge summary and receipt of payment.

Care is all about having tying ups with Hospitals and Pharma companies. Any subsidy or concession provided by them helps us Save a Life. Following tie ups have been undertaken.

Max Devika Devi Heart & Vascular Institute & Max Foundation have supported GF by way of FOC cardiac surgery. The value of financial support extended in 2009 was 3 lakhs to cover 2 surgeries of GF children.

National Heart Institute extends GF a 50% rebate on referred cases undertaken at their hospital.

Indraprastha Apollo Hospital offers rebates based on a case by case basis.

Escorts Heart Institute has agreed to extend a 15 % concession on package rates for any cases that GF brings.

Batra Hospital, the understanding we have is that GF will pay any balance amount that a needy family is falling short off after considering each case.

Global Cancer Concern India supports GF for any patients who need medicine or laboratory tests at their free clinic at Vasant Kunj.

SmilesStore offers a range of corporate gifts and promotional items. These include corporate branded T-shirts, caps, socks, jackets, sling bags, mugs, mouse pads, card holders etc. Apart from the products described on our website, we fulfill bulk orders for gift items a corporate house may require.

SmilesGem: The Give and Earn More (GEM) is a CSR initiative, a form of giving by individuals in corporate houses supported by the firm. In this programme, individuals in a company pledge to give a fixed amount each month, from their pay cheque to GF. The company makes one cheque at end of each

SmilesPartners:
To help Genesis Foundation financially support the treatment of children, established businesses such as resturants, have joined hands with the Foundation to raise funds for these critically ill children that need immediate medical intervention to be able to survive.

The SmilesPartners participate in the programme in two ways. The first option is for the business to donate a fixed percentage of the payments received as part of their CSR contribution to Genesis Foundation. The second option is to give their customers the choice of making a donation to the Genesis Foundation at time of payment for services or products. The accounts department of the business then collects the entire amount and at the end of the month sends the cheque to Genesis Foundation.

SmilesEvents:

Through SmilesEvents we organize fund raisers, details of our events undertaken from 2008 to 2010 are indicated below.
